May 2011

Last weekend Darryl and I stayed at the Noosa RACV Resort which is in a beautiful setting beside Weyba Creek and has awesome views to the Glasshouse Mtns.  We awoke to the sounds of the many birds and wandered down to the Noosa Food & Wine Festival.  After finding ourselves a cosy spot in the Autumn sun, we people watched, read the paper and sampled the many drops on offer.  Darryl discovered the Estate Shiraz from Bent Road Wines and then treated me to a carton of Pizzini Brachetto....yum!.

The next morning we made a stop at the farmers market for some banana bread, lime juice & fresh produce before chilling on the beach at Mooloolaba with a nice hot coffee.  A great weekend with my gorgeous husband.

Pencils, Corks & Shells

Can't believe it has been a month since the last post!.  A lot has happened in that time.  My home town of Christchurch devastated by an earthquake, followed by more devastation in Japan.  My first soccer game - you have a new fan, Brisbane Roar.

Our new puppy 'Sox' was born in Canberra.  She'll be here with us in Brisbane in a few weeks.  She's just the cutest little bundle of black & white.  Well done to her parents 'Samson & Delilah'.

So a few weeks ago Darryl & I went for a walk out to the King Island sand spit at Wellington Point.  I hadn't been out there since I was a child.  It bought back lots of memories.  We even saw a couple get married at sunset on the way out. It was actually pretty tacky, but a nice idea.  I found a few cork-screwy little shells which I pocketed and later took a few snaps of.

I've also been busy photographing coloured pencils and corks in my studio. Sounds strange, but Mum had this big load of old corks which looked quite interesting .  The smell when I opened up the box was interesting too!.  As for the pencils, I was looking for something colourful and a friend suggested them, so here they are. I need to get a life!.

Until next time....

Valentine's Day

Darryl and I had a lovely dinner and bottle of champagne at home this year with lots of candles and nice music.  I was lucky enough to score a gorgeous box of summer flowers, all my favourites, gerberas, lillies and irises.  Last year we were at Stanthorpe sampling all the delicious cool weather wines on offer...yum!. Let's do it again!.

To me Valentine's Day is about remembering all the great people in our lives and why we love them.  During the day I spent time with my friend Kelly who had a bad car accident on the weekend.  Thank goodness she is okay, if a little bruised and bashed.  She was very lucky and incidents like this make us realise how lucky we are.

Hope you all had a great Valentine's 2011.

Here's a couple of images from our night in.

Where to start...

Welcome to my new blog.  This is the first time I've done this, so hang in there and let's see where it takes us!.  Well guess what, it's raining...again.  Luckily I went down to the park this morning and shot some pretty bits and pieces I noticed yesterday when my husband and I went for a walk.  The sun was quite beautiful even if it did play hide and seek.

So, I attended the Australian Institute of Professional Photography's 'Hair of the Dog' last week and feel quite inspired.  Still not sure what the dog has to do with it though.  Anyway, how did I end up there?.  Long story.  I completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at QCA many moons ago and have been interested in photography for a long time.  So last year, I took the year off my normal job and studied photography.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, not quite sure yet) I injured my back on my honeymoon in July and had two spinal surgeries late last year.  What that has meant is time on my hands to explore my new skills, develop a website, register a business name and now create a blog.  Whether you like my work or not doesn't worry me, I enjoy making it and if you enjoy it too, well that's just a bonus.  Check me out at www.redbugphotography.com.au if you want to see more.

So I'm going to post my work here and try to keep a regular record of where I'm at, starting with the shots  I took this morning...
